Dansation is proud to be affiliated with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (UK) the Royal Academy of Dance (UK) The Dance Studio Company (UK) Acrobatic Arts (Canada) Theatre Dance Association (RSA) The Academy of Dance Arts (RSA) as well as the American Academy of Ballet (USA).

Owned by internationally accredited dancer and teacher, Miss Lauren Sydne Matthews, Dansation aims to provide top quality training to all students in a loving and welcoming environment at her dance studio in Johannesburg.

Our studio aims to encourage each dancer to reach his/her individual goals, whatever those might be. We cater to both recreational and competitive students. Students are given opportunities to participate in Dance Tests and Exams, Shows as well as Festivals and Competitions.

All staff members are professionally trained dancers as well as certified dance teachers with a deep commitment to cultivating a passion for dance and the arts within students.

Our dance classes incorporate safe stretching and Pilates techniques to strengthen bodies and prevent injuries.

Modern Dance Department

Dansation Studio’s Modern Dance Department is run by studio Principal, teacher and pro level dancer, Miss Lauren Sydne Matthews. Our Modern dance Department aims to cultivate versatile dancers using techniques derived from Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary Dance. There’s something for everyone in the Modern syllabus!

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD)

One of the world’s leading dance examination boards with headquarters in London, UK. The ISTD’s mission is to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms, promote knowledge of dance, provide up-to-date techniques for members, and maintain and improve teaching standards.

Theatre Dance Association (TDA)

The Theatre of Dance Association is an echo of no other syllabus and the first of its kind in South Africa. It provides dancers with the tools they need to perform and challenges their technical ability and artistic expression. The core belief of the Theatre Dance Association is that the dancer who is stimulated will learn more readily and perform better. The TDA syllabus is exciting, fun, innovative and original.

The Dance School Company (TDSC)

TDSC is a UK based Dance Board with an ethos rooted in fostering a positive and enriching experience for every student who participates in the syllabus. Their primary goal is to instil confidence and a sense of accomplishment in each dancer, regardless of their aspirations in dance – be it a recreational pursuit or a pathway to a professional career in the arts. TDSC is committed to maintaining high standards in dance training.

Academy of Dance Arts (ADA)

The Academy of Dance Arts is an independent dance association with both nationally and internationally affiliated dance teachers. The ADA method ensures that the young dancer can grow in their discipline with well rounded, solid technical training.

Ballet Department

Ballet at Dansation is taught with passion in the RAD method by Ms Megan Brits.

Not only is Megan a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), she is also an experienced teacher in the Cuban Method of Ballet, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) and the American Academy of Ballet syllabus (AAB)

Royal Academy Of Dance

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the most influential Classical Ballet dance organizations operating on a global scale. Over 100 years old, RAD continues to promote and develop excellence in ballet. The syllabi is taught around the world and thousands of students are enrolled in their many dance courses and study programmes. The Royal Academy of Dance connects and inspires.

The Cuban Method of Ballet

The Cuban ballet method is a style of ballet that combines influences from Russian, French, Italian and American schools and is known for its technique and footwork. It is organic, extroverted and highly expressive.

The American Academy of Ballet (AAB)

The AAB curriculum was founded by Ballet veteran, Mignon Furman and is taught by numerous dance schools in over 18 countries worldwide. It guides dancers to simultaneously develop their technique, artistry and stage presence.

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)

PBT is an innovative body conditioning and strength-building program that prioritises muscle memory development through ballet-specific exercises.

Acrobatics Department

Acrobatic Arts

Acrobatic Arts is a Canadian acrobatics syllabus​ created by successful studio owner and AcroDance expert, Mandy Yip.

The program is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in the five divisions of Acro-Dance: Flexibility, Strength, Limbering, Balancing and Tumbling. Developed with input from professionals and experts in ballet, modern dance, jazz, contortion, artistic gymnastics, yoga, acro yoga, Pilates, physiotherapy, hand balancing and more, you will not find a more comprehensive program.  Simple, thoughtful progressions take the beginner dancer from log rolls and summersaults to the advanced dancer tumbling effortlessly across the stage!

Tap and Hip Hop Departments

Both our Tap Department and Hip Hop department are geared toward the recreational dancer, looking to express themselves and learn in a fun and non-judgemental space. These departments are all about exploring creativity, boosting confidence and getting active in a positive and high-energy environment.

These two recreational programs are the perfect place for kids age 8+ to learn awesome moves, make new friends and have a blast while developing rhythm and coordination.
